
DeWitt began her stage career at 13 years old. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Ball State University. The director recommended that she apply to UCLA's Department of Theater MFA program. There she received the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship, as well as the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt said she never met the actor Abe Vigoda while she was at UCLA. She was employed as an assistant secretary while at UCLA. The role she played by DeWitt as Janet Wood in Three's Company's run from 1977 to 1984 is her most famous. She was cast in the pilot of the show, and then employed. Janet was also featured in an episode of the show The Ropers that she appeared in from 1979. DeWitt made her acting debut in a scene in 1984 on Three's Company. In June 1991 she returned to acting appearing in Noises Off at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. [1] She also appeared in Spring Fling, a 1995 TV comedy. A character that was based on her, voiced by an actress, was in a 1997 episode of Pinky and the Brain. She was featured in an episode of Cybill and also made an appearance in Living Single's final episode. A few of her TV shows of the 2000s include Hope Island and The Nick at Nite Holiday Special as and Call of the Wild.
