Tyana Jones, her TV One character, was her first TV show. Ali also played Roxanne in the CBS soap drama The Young and the Restless. Ali aged 6, began her acting career on Sesame Street in 1985. She performed with the jazz legend Herbie Hancock. Hancock demonstrated the Fairlight CMI synthesizer by using Ali's voice. Star Search featured her on two episodes.
